Winter Storm Causes Headaches at TIA

Bay News 9

A winter storm that stretches from the upper Midwest into the Mid-Atlantic and New England is having an effect on travelers at Tampa International Airport.

Officials posted a message just after noon Thursday on the airport's Facebook page:

It's another busy day at TPA and Mother Nature is not cooperating! We are experiencing significant delays due to airports impacted by winter weather. If you are traveling today, please check the status of your flight before coming to the airport.

As of 1:30 p.m., FlightAware.com reports nine flights scheduled out of Tampa today have been canceled and 64 delayed. There's no figure on how many flights into TIA have been affected by the storm, which is causing significant problems at major airports in the New York and Chicago areas.

The most recent FlightAware figures show almost 3,500 flights "within, into or out of the United States" have been delayed today and over 1,600 flights have been canceled.

Travelers can get more information about flights into and out of Tampa International here.
