Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA) is holding a groundbreaking Tuesday to give abused women and children a place to live.
The shelter, located in St. Petersburg, is no longer adequate to serve the number of people who need help.
“Our current 30-bed shelter is no longer adequate to serve the needs of our residents, since we are turning away 1400 women and children each year,” says Linda Osmundson, Executive Director of CASA.
Since 1977, CASA has been providing refuge, crisis intervention, and advocacy to people whose home is not a safe place. Residents at the shelter receive emergency clothing, food, personal care items, child care.
Survivors are not always women. CASA has served male, transgendered and trafficked survivors. As the numbers of violence increased, CASA has announced a groundbreaking to expand their capabilities.
The event will take place Tuesday in St. Petersburg at 10:00 am.
