Water Street Tampa announced Monday it is bringing a “grocery anchor” to downtown Tampa with the arrival of a GreenWise Market in 2021.
In a news release Monday, Strategic Property Partners, LLC, said Publix’s organic specialty market will be housed at 815 Water Street, which is currently under construction at the intersection of Channelside Drive and Water Street.
“We are excited to bring a critical grocery anchor to downtown Tampa, which will be walkable for residents of Water Street Tampa and our neighboring communities,” SSP Chief Executive Officer James Nozar said.
This is the first large-scale grocer to be announced for Water Street Tampa, the downtown project that will encompass retail, residential and entertainment space along with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Heart Institute.
Monday’s news comes on the same day Publix also announced its GreenWise location on West Azeele Street in Hyde Park will be converted to a traditional Publix store.
Remodeling will begin next month, according to the news release.
The Water Street location will join a Publix market that is scheduled to open in August in the Channelside district, at East Twiggs Street and North Meridian Avenue, as well as a location at 243 Bayshore Boulevard.
The Hyde Park location was Publix’s third GreenWise location, according to the retailer. It opened in 2008.
