Henryk Gorecki's Symphony No. 3, written in 1976, is also known as Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. Dedicated to the composer’s wife, the work manages to cover the history of conflict in Poland for hundreds of years, using explorations of modes and Polish language poetry.
