Hundreds of additional charges have been filed as a result of protests that turned violent in Tampa following the death of George Floyd in May.
The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office on Friday announced 264 charges against 120 individuals, largely stemming from widespread unrest near Busch Gardens and the University of South Florida on May 30.
The charges include looting, burglary, theft and attacking police.
According to State Attorney Andrew Warren, two-thirds are felony charges that carry a minimum penalty of five years in prison if convicted.
In addition, Warren announced his office will not pursue criminal charges against the individuals painted a “Back the Blue” mural in downtown Tampa without permission on Aug. 1, and others who subsequently defaced it.
