The University of South Florida softball team is one step closer to the Women's College World Series after beating the University of Florida 1-0 Sunday, advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals for just the second time in school history.

Sophomore pitcher Sara Nevins' five hit, 12 strikeout complete game gave USF a 3-0 record in the Gainesville region. Nevins (29 wins, 5 losses) is a finalist for USA Softball's Player of the Year Award.

USF will host one of eight Super Regionals, as they welcome Hofstra for a best-of-three series. Game 1 is set for this Friday at 7 p.m., with game 2 Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Both games will be in the USF Softball Stadium on the Tampa campus and will be broadcast on ESPNU. A time for game 3 Sunday, if necessary, has yet to be announced.

The winner moves on to the Women's College World Series, which begins May 31st in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

USF's other Super Regional appearance came in 2006, also after winning the Gainesville Regional. USF lost to host UCLA.
