USF's Sun Dome Hosts the World Championship Skip Roping Competition

Skip Roping isn't in the Olympics yet, but competitors hope it will be soon. USF's Sun Dome plays host, this week, to the World Championship Skip Roping... or as Americans like to call it,  jump roping competition.

Skip Roping requires agility, speed, stamina and coordination. The competitions range from double dutch or single to speed.

Becky Zelewski works for USA Jump Rope, the organization coordinating the event.

"A lot of what they are looking for are the difficult tricks when it comes to freestyle and intricate crosses and multiple unders, how many times you can put the rope underneath your feet before it lands on the ground."

Its a biannual competition held all over the world. Team Australia is known for their grace.

Benny Cooper says the key to it is "making no mistakes and making everything look really clean."

Australian teammate Molly Morris continues on to say, "you've got to make sure you're smiling and sitting up straight,  you don't want to look messy on the floor."

The athletes jump rope to music and will spend the week competing in the dome, with the championships on Sunday. Event organizers and teams hope a shot for their sport at the Olympics is just a hop, skip and a jump away.
