The NFL's new security policy is limiting the number and sizes of bags that fans can bring into stadiums. That policy will be enforced starting next week at the Buccaneers' pre-season home opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
Purses, backpacks, seat cushions, and fanny packs are no more starting this season at Raymond James Stadium for any of its events, like the USF and Bucs games or the Monster Jam Truck Series.
You are allowed to bring in a one gallon zip block bag or a clear bag like the 12" by 12" by 6" bags officially sold by the NFL. Women are permitted a small clutch bag too. Fans can still carry their keys, wallets, and cell phones in their pockets.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers COO Brian Ford says this is not about prohibiting new items.
"This is all about fan safety and expediting the process at the gate. It'll make the bag checks that much quicker than it is currently," he said.
There will be an exception for fans with medically necessary items that can be inspected at specific gates. Stadium officials will have a secondary perimeter during events where security will check for prohibited bags.
