Sept 11: Wednesday

Polk County

MULBERRY HIGH SCHOOL, NE Fourth Circle, Mulberry, FL 33860, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Key Club members at Mulberry High and members of the Kiwanis Club of Mulberry will be honoring 9-11 heroes by providing them with a free continental breakfast of donuts, coffee and juice.

POLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE OPERATION CENTER, 1891 Jim Keene Blvd in Winter Haven, 10 a.m. Frank Fanni, owner of A Touch Above, will be releasing 50 white doves in commemoration of the first responders who gave their lives on September 11, 2001. He has invited first responders from around the country, as well as the public and media, to attend.

Hillsborough County

METROPOLITAN MINISTRIES, 2301 North Tampa Street Tampa, 33602, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Tampa office of Holland & Knight is giving back to the Tampa community for the 9-11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. Volunteers from TECO and Holland & Knight will help Metropolitan Ministries with their mission by providing shelter, food and clothing to the homeless.

TAMPA FIREFIGHTERS MUSEUM, 720 East Zack Street, Tampa, 33602, 9:55 a.m. Tampa Fire Rescue family, friends and guests will be attending the Tampa Fire Rescue September 11th Remembrance Ceremony. Mayor Bob Buckhorn will also be present and the Tampa Fire Rescue Honor Guard will perform the presentation of colors.  

Manatee County

SARASOTA POLICE DEPARTMENT, 2099 Adams Lane, Sarasota, 8:30 a.m. The Sarasota Police Department, City of Sarasota, Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and the Sarasota County Fire Department will be holding a ceremony open to the public to remember September 11, 2001.

MANATEE TECHNICAL INSTITUTE EAST CAMPUS, 5540 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Bradenton, 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Lakewood Ranch Remembers 9-11 community gathering will be held around the flagpole at Manatee Technical Institute East Campus. Survivor and vice president of the Retired Firefighters from 9-11 Garrette Lindgren will be the guest speaker.

STATE COLLEGE OF FLORIDA, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, 8:55 a.m. State College of Florida will be hosting a ceremony at the main flagpole at the campus’s entrance. Speakers include SCF Venice Provost Darlene Wedler-Johnson; SCF Venice Veterans Exchange President Chris Stough and Staff Sgt. R. M. Fredericks, Marine Recruiting Station of Sarasota.

PATRIOTS PARK, 800 Venetia Bay Blvd., Venice, 10 a.m. to noon. Tom Trento, Executive Director of The United West, will be the guest speaker at the ceremony held in Patriots Park.

FETE BALLROOM AT POLO GRILL, 10670 Boardwalk Loop, Lakewood Ranch, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance's "Tribute to Armed Forces & How Our Legislature Is Serving" Luncheon will involve presentations, discussions and an award ceremony. The Sarasota Military Academy cadets will start off the event with the colors presentation, followed by a legislation discussion by State Representative Greg Steube and an award presentation for a local veteran. There is a charge of $25 for members and $35 for others.

THE BEARDED CLAM, 7150 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, 5 p.m. The Annual 9-11 Ride in Remembrance will start at 5 p.m. The ride will end at Applebee's at University and Lockwood Ridge.

Pinellas County

COLISEUM, 535 Fourth Ave. N., St. Petersburg, 33701, 7:30 a.m. Patriot Day Memorial Breakfast with keynote speaker Michael Fineo, a September 11th survivor. Tickets are $100 and benefits go to Paws for Patriots, Special Operations Warrior Foundation and the Gold Shield Foundation.

ST. PETERSBURG FIRE STATIONS, 9:57 a.m. The St. Petersburg Fire Stations will observe a moment of silence to commemorate the deaths of the first-responders. The fire trucks will be positioned outside the stations and personnel will be at attention holding “Never Forget 9-11” signs.

Hernando County

HERNANDO COUNTY FAMILY YMCA, 1300 Mariner Boulevard, Spring Hill, 6:30 a.m. The YMCA Run to Remember includes a 5K run and one-mile walk. There will be breakfast and prizes. Commemorative T-shirts for $7.

Sept. 14: Saturday

Hillsborough County

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK, 3602 U.S. 301, Tampa, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The 6th Annual Patriot Day Observance includes a festival with live entertainment from local performer Jacked Up, various vendors and interactive displays from military and first responders. For a $15 (or 2 for $25) donation guests will receive a BBQ dinner and a chance to win one of several grand prizes.

The Remembrance Ride will start at six locations and arrive at the event:
