Cold-Weather Shelters to Open Tonight

With temperatures dropping into the 30s tonight, officials in Hillsborough and Pasco counties are opening cold-weather shelters. TBO.com says the Hillsborough County shelters are available for the homeless as well as people whose homes don't have adequate heat.

The Hillsborough County shelters are located:

  • Metropolitan Ministries, 2010 N Florida Ave. in Tampa, will open at 4 p.m. for adults and families. Call (813) 209-1077.
  • Salvation Army, 1514 N Florida Ave. in Tampa, will open at 4 p.m. for adults only. Call (813) 221-4440.
  • Jackson Springs Recreation Center, 8620 Jackson Springs Road in Town ‘N Country, will open at 6:30 for adults and families. Call (813) 554-5064.
  • Wimauma Community Center, 5705 Hillsborough St. in Wimauma, will open at 6 p.m. for adults and families. Call (813) 635-3500.
  • Brandon Community Center, 510 E Sadie St. in Brandon, will open at 6 p.m. for homeless individuals and families with children. Call (813) 635-8179.

Pasco County Emergency Management officials are opening a pair of shelters at 6 p.m. tonight.

  • Community Congregational Church, 6533 Circle Dr. in New Port Richey. Call (727) 597-0428
  • Chancey Road Christian Church, 34921 Chancey Rd. in Zephyrhills. Call (813) 317-4975
