Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos spends a lot of time in his car, and WUSF is there to keep him company.
His message to WUSF Public Media: "First, let me begin by saying congratulations to WUSF on your 50th anniversary. The City of Clearwater is getting ready to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015. This is five decades of service to the community, of listening enjoyment, of news, of entertainment, and so you've just done a fantastic job at WUSF of reaching out into the community -- being a true community partner."
On his listening habits: "Mayors and elected officials live in their cars at all times, so we just play the game on the radio, depending on what's on and what kind of a mood we're in -- what meeting we've just left, compared to what meeting we're going to. So it varies."
His message to fellow listeners: "I would just like to thank all of your listeners for supporting WUSF. It's important to remember that we need contributions to help the station out."
Reporter's note: We did not prompt Mayor Cretekos to solicit donations for the station -- promise! But if you're so inclined... here's the link.
