Sarasota Film Festival Raises The Curtain On Its 16th Year

Sarasota Film Festival

The Sarasota Film Festival has programming for the community all year long. But this Friday, its international film festival opens with nearly 200 films, glittering stars and movies that will rivet audiences to their seats.

Director Tom Hall said the festival is really all about community.  He said festival organizers keep ticket prices low and make events accessible to the people who live here.

"You go to Sundance and you never see anyone from Utah...we're really doing this for members of the community," he says.

The festival opens with Rory Kennedy's "Last Days of Vietnam."  The festival is teaming up with The Patterson Foundation, The Legacy of Valor Campaignand The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to present ACTS OF VALOR: THE AMERICAN VETERAN ON SCREEN, which comprises both fictional and documentary films that seek to showcase and honor veterans.
