StoryCorps Tampa Bay: Escape

StoryCorps
Lucia and Alma Ayala tell the story of the day they fled from Lucia's abusive husband, when they stepped into the StoryCorps booth in 2014.

In this installment, we hear from mother and daughter, Lucia and Alma Ayala, about the day Lucia decided to leave her abusive husband and travel with four little kids from Connecticut to Miami, Florida. Alma shares with her mom what that trip was like for her as a little girl, and the imprint it left on her.

Alma Ayala attended Yale University.

Music Used:

"Vivir Mi Vida” by Marc Anthony from the album, 3.0.

StoryCorps Tampa Bay airs every Monday on WUSF 89.7 at 8:44 a.m. during Morning Edition and at 5:44 p.m. during All Things Considered.
