What if you could head down to your local public library and check-out a sewing machine or a stand mixer?
The City of Temple Terrace is trying to make that a reality with donations from the community.
"This is still in the early stage and right now we're just in the process of collecting donations. So we're actively looking for people to come up with ideas that they think would be something the community at large would want to borrow," city spokesman Michael Dunn said.
The idea of loaning residents more than books, music and movies is not new. Dunn said the main Hillsborough County Library in downtown Tampa offers for loan items as unque as ukuleles and life-sized models of the human ear.
He said the Temple Terrace library is looking for donations of cookware, tools and small musical instruments, among other things. But they don't want anything that's broken or requires batteries or fuel.
And the donations are tax-deductible.
But Temple Terrace wants to offer such things as clothing irons and hobby kits to loan out. Anyone with a public library card from Hillsborough County would be able to borrow such things for 21 days. The late fee would be $1 a day.
