About a week after its superintendent resigned over mishandling a sexual harassment complaint, the Sarasota County School Board voted to appoint Mitsi Corcoran as acting superintendent.
Corcoran, who is currently assistant superintendent and chief financial officer, will hold the position until an interim superintendent is named next month.
The Board also voted unanimously to approve a mutual separation with current superintendent Todd Bowden, who is on paid administrative leave through the end of the year.
Bowden stepped down last week after being criticized for failing to act quickly enough when he learned that his top deputy, Jeff Maultsby, was accused of sexually harassing a co-worker.
Under terms of the separation agreement, Bowden will receive a severance of 20 weeks’ pay and be reimbursed for $65,000 in legal fees.
