Selmon Expressway Closures for the RNC Might Require Early Planning

tampa-xway.com

The Republican National Convention is bringing lots of changes across the Tampa Bay area. And one of those changes we might want to plan ahead for is coming to the Selmon Expressway.

If you travel the Selmon Expressway, start planning your RNC detours soon.

The express way local lanes will be closed between Willow Avenue and 50th Street Monday at 12:30 a.m. through Friday at about 5 a.m. that week of the convention.

The reversible lanes will remain open and operate as normal.

Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority spokeswoman Sue Chrzan says she's already planning her new route.

"In order for me to get to my office, as I come the normal way, I would have to get off the expressway, work my way up to Kennedy, and come in with everybody else or stay on 275 and come with everybody else, so I'm going to try it on Monday," she says.

Construction on the Selmon wasn't planned to be finished by the time the RNC came to town. Construction will continue through the RNC but further east of Downtown Tampa.
