Have you been exposed in any way to oil from the BP/Deepwater Horizon blowout in 2010? Then a study looking at the health effects of the spill wants to hear from you.
The study is being conducted by the National Institutes of Health. Study leader Dale Sandler says the only way they can sort out what health effects might be related to specific jobs is to include as large a study group as possible.
"We believe that every worker has a story to tell, and we want to hear as many of these stories as we possibly can to get a better handle on what the potential health effects of the oil and the dispersants are on human health," she says, "which is why we're working so hard to get the word out and making sure that we can get as many people in the study as as possible."
The enrollment period ends on December 31st, and they want as many people who were exposed to the oil spill in any way to sign up. That could include people who cleaned up tarballs on beaches, fishermen who caught contaminated fish - or even researchers who sailed into the slicks.
