Busch Gardens Welcomes 3 Baby Tigers

Busch Gardens Tampa

Who doesn't want to 'ooh' and 'aah' when a new baby is born? Busch Gardens can multiply that by three, because they are welcoming a trio endangered Malayan tiger babies.

According to a release from Busch Gardens Tampa, only an estimated 500 such tigers still exist in the wild.  And these births are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan.

Malayan tiger cub births in managed care are rare – just one successful birth in 2012 as part of the SSP. These are the first Malayan tigers born at Busch Gardens Tampa and the first offspring for both the mother Bzui and father Mata.

Each cub weighs between six and seven pounds, and one of the male cubs has anemia and a "rare but benign skin condition." It's in serious condition.

You can monitor the progress of the cubs here.

I love telling stories about my home state. And I hope they will help you in some way and maybe even lift your spirits.
