Oh Deer! Pinellas Deputies Rescue Spa-Bound Doe

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office

While a nice soak in a hot tub may sound pleasant to human beings, it's not exactly the same experience for wildlife, particularly a doe that needed to be pulled from a Palm Harbor spa by a trapper and Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a small doe ran through the pool screen of a home on Radcliffe Drive in the Lansbrook subdivision this morning and fell into the spa, apparently knocking itself unconscious.

Homeowner Mike Wyers called deputies when he couldn't remove it on his own. By the time Deputies Tim McTaggert and Kevin Lewis arrived, the deer had woken up but still couldn't escape the spa.

After attempting to calm the deer by putting a blanket over its head, McTaggert held the doe's head and neck in a stable position for several minutes. Once trapper George Lontakis got there, he and McTaggert were able to lift the doe from the spa.

The troopers say the deer then sat down, rested for a few moments and took off into the nearby woods. Take a look at the video above and judge for yourself if the deer left without saying thank you.
