Temperatures Plunge Throughout Florida

Florida Public Radio Emergency Network

The State of Florida is no exception to the winter weather that is being felt across the nation.

In the wake of a strong cold front, temperatures are likely to reach periods of below freezing readings on Tuesday night. Hard freeze watch and freeze warnings are in effect, Tuesday to Wednesday morning for the Florida Panhandle, as well as, north central and central Florida. In several areas, lows are forecast to be the lowest of the season.

Low temperatures will range from the upper to mid 20's in northern portions of the state. Sub-freezing temperatures are possible for at least two hours on Tuesday night to early Wednesday morning. Elevated winds behind the front will bring wind chill readings into the teens across the Panhandle, and as far south as central Florida during the day on Tuesday.

Highs on Tuesday are forecast in the 50's across most of the northern half of the state. Those least affected by the strong cold front are portions of south Florida, where high temperatures on Tuesday are forecast in the lower 70's.
