Flooding along Ridge Road

As of 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, here is the latest information regarding Pasco County Government’s response:

FLOOD WARNING

  The Anclote River remains at major flood levels.

  The National Weather Service shows a peak of the Anclote River Tuesday night at 25.25 feet and is expected to continue to fall to minor flood stage by Friday evening at 8 p.m. The historical record of 27.7 feet occurred in 1945.

  Local government cannot relieve the situation through pumping, because the rivers, streams and ground are saturated and all of the water storage areas and retention ponds are full. There is no place for the County to try and pump water to.

o  Any additional rainfall in the next few days will impact roads, yards and structures.

o  Areas that were affected by flooding last week are expected to be impacted again today.

  For residents in the Anclote River at Elfers communities the evacuation area subject to flooding is as follows:

WATER SUPPLY

  County is working with public health to identify need for portable sanitation stations.
If your well is in a flooded area, your water may contain disease-causing bacteria and may not be safe to drink.

DOH recommends one of the following:

  Boil water for at least 1 minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.

  Disinfect water by adding 8 drops (about 1/8 teaspoon – this would form a puddle about the size of a dime) of unscented household bleach per gallon of water, and then let it stand for 30 minutes. If the water is cloudy after 30 minutes, repeat the procedure. Use a container that has a cap or cover for disinfecting and storing water to be used for drinking. This will prevent contamination.

  Use only bottled water, especially for mixing baby formula.

After the flooding subsides:

  Disinfect your well using these steps: http://goo.gl/yu09xb

  You can have your water tested through the Pasco County Environmental Lab or by a laboratory certified by the state to perform a drinking water analysis. For more information call the Resident Information Center (727) 847-2411.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMUNICATIONS (9-1-1)

  Only call 9-1-1 for emergencies. All other calls for County services, call the Resident Information Center (RIC). The RIC’s information line is (727) 847-2411, (352) 523-2411, (813) 996-2411. Or call 211.
