River Flood Warnings in Effect, Flooded Road Closures

Daylina Miller/WUSF

The National Weather Service said river flood warnings continue for the Peace River at Zolfo Springs, Bartow and Arcadia, and the Horse Creek near Arcadia.

Flood warnings are also in effect for the Myakka River at Myakka River State Park.

The heavy rain of the past few weeks has also created a situation where the Little Manatee River at Wimauma could flood, as well as the Alafia at Lithia.

This flood warning is stretching out through the middle of the week and also affects the Hillsborough River at Hillsborough State Park, Cypress Creek at Worthington Gardens and the Withlacoochee River at Trilby.

Meanwhile, the Hernando County Sheriff's Department said the following roads are closed because of flooding:

  • Cortez Boulevard (S.R. 50) and Nancy Avenue
  • Croom Road from Broad St. (U.S. 41) to McIntyre Road
  • Culbreath Road (near the Pasco Co. line) still has standing water

Pasco County said it is moving its Flood Recovery Center (FRC) from its current location to 8620 Galen Wilson Blvd. this Wednesday (8.19).  The County says that it will still be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to help business owners and individuals with flood recovery.  Representatives from Pasco County Human Services, Pasco County Elderly Nutrition, Pasco County Veterans Services, The Salvation Army and other community services will be there.

Pasco County Public Transportation will offer free bus passes to residents who need to get to the FRC.  You can find out more here.

I love telling stories about my home state. And I hope they will help you in some way and maybe even lift your spirits.
