Florida Matters: Online Learning In High School

This week on Florida Matters we debate the pros and cons of online learning in high school with a panel of experts and with comments our listeners submitted about their experience with virtual education.

Every public high school student in the state of Florida is required to take at least one course that primarily involves online learning in order to graduate. But some parents, teachers and other critics say it's not a good fit for every student.

Joining us to discuss the issue:

Jodi Marshall, PhD: President and CEO of Florida Virtual School

JoAnne Glenn: Principal of Pasco eSchool

Adam LaMee: Teacher-in-Residence for the University of Central Florida’s Physics department and President of the American Association of Physics Teachers’ Florida chapter

Carol Crawford, PhD: Director of Club Z!In-Home Tutoring Services for Greater Tampa

Special thanks to all our listeners who shared their feedback with us both on and off the air.

You can always share your feedback with Florida Matters by recording a message or emailing FloridaMatters@wusf.org.

I cover health care for WUSF and the statewide journalism collaborative Health News Florida. I’m passionate about highlighting community efforts to improve the quality of care in our state and make it more accessible to all Floridians. I’m also committed to holding those in power accountable when they fail to prioritize the health needs of the people they serve.
