Florida Seniors Living Longer - But Not Better

America’s Health Ranking just released its first Senior Health Ranking, and it says seniors are living longer but they aren’t living better, especially in states like Florida.

Florida’s over-65 population is set to increase by almost 88% over the next 15 years. America’s Health Ranking’s 'Senior Health Ranking' put Florida low on the list because of our number of chronic senior drinkers, seniors with more than one health problem, as well as a large percentage of inactive elderly.

United Health Foundation’s Senior Advisor Dr. Reed Tuckson says the Sunshine State doesn’t look so bright for its older population.

“Almost 17 percent of seniors in Florida are reporting concern with food insecurity, feeling like they don’t have enough to eat or the ability to have access to food," Tuckson said." That’s not only morally deplorably in a country as rich as ours and a state as blessed as Florida, but it also has significant consequences again for the health of those seniors down-stream.”
