Watch: Match Day 2014 For USF Health Students

USF's Class of 2014 Health students went to Skippers Smokehouse in Tampa Friday to find out where their residencies will be. Each student places $1 in a box and the box of money was awarded to the student with the final envelope.

Congresswoman Kathy Castor was at the event, where she announced federal legislation to tackle the doctor shortage, expanding residency positions where there is a shortage. Castor and Representative Joe Heck of Nevada today introduced the Creating Access to Residency Education (CARE) Act of 2014. It would create a $25 million grant program that would allow hospitals in states with a low ratio of medical residents to apply for matching funds.

According to one study, Florida has 19 residents in graduate school training programs for every 100,000 residents. That's nearly half of the national average.
