Tampa's Chamberlain High School is scheduled to be under modified lock down until school's out Friday. Police say a man had serious thoughts of committing a Columbine-style shooting there.
The man, Freddy Velazquez, turned himself in to a mental health center last week.
Tampa Police Corporal Curt Rojka says Velazquez told the counselor his plans.
"He checked himself in to the mental health crisis center last week stating that he was hearing voices in his head to do something at Chamberlain High School," Rojka said.
Velazquez told a counselor he had been thinking for a long time about the school -- about killing people there and then shooting himself in the head.
He talked about checking out handguns, chaining doors at the school, and how many exits it has, police said.
Velazquez checked out of the mental health center Tuesday.
School district spokeswoman Linda Cobbe says Chamberlain High School didn't receive an actual threat. But school officials have increased security there anyway.
"When he revealed to a counselor that he had been thinking about going to the school and conducting a shooting," Cobbe said, "law enforcement informed the school and we've taken precautions to make sure he can't carry that out."
Police are still investigating.
