The ripples from the acquittal of George Zimmerman continued to spread far from Sanford over the weekend. Sunday night, nearly 200 people gathered in Tampa's Curtis Hixon Park to denounce the verdict.
"We chant for justice!" came the cry from the bullhorn, as scores of people gathered along Ashley Drive in the front of the park.
It was part of a series of nationwide protests after Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The Coalition for Justice for Trayvon organized the rally to honor the memory of the unarmed 17-year-old Martin.
Alekos Zambrano is with Tampa Dream Defenders, one of the organizers of rally.
"We're protesting the jury's decision and the whole justice system," Zambrano said. "Because what yesterday's decision proved to us - to the youth of Florida and the nation - is that a black or a brown life is worth nothing. And they proved that to us, beyond a shadow of a doubt."
"Are you ready to march?!" came the cry from a bullhorn.
After a series of speeches were delivered, the crowd marched through downtown to an empty U.S. Federal Courthouse before returning to the park and peacefully dispersing.
