A rug containing a misprint that has gotten the attention of news outlets worldwide is on the auction block.
A couple of months ago, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office installed a pair of rugs in the lobby of its Largo headquarters. Earlier this week, a deputy realized that one of them read "In Dog We Trust" instead of "In God We Trust."
Thursday, the Sheriff's Office released a statement saying:
The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office will not "sweep anything under the rug." In light of the continued and extensive interest regarding our plans for the "doggone" rug, at this time we can confirm that the rug will be auctioned online with proceeds to be donated to a local animal rescue group.
All of the money raised will go to Canine Estates Inc., a Palm Harbor-based animal rescue.

Online bidding started at $100. Within twelve hours, 25 bids have come in, with the highest being $1125. Bidding will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21.
The rug, one of two in the lobby, originally cost $500. The proofs submitted to the rug manufacturer, American Floor Mats, bore the correct quote, as did the other rug.
