Pinellas Sheriff 'Dog Rug' Sells for Almost $10K

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office

Last week, media from all over the world picked up the story of the Pinellas Country Sheriff's Office's rug in their Largo headquarters that had the typo "In Dog We Trust" on it.

The Sheriff's Office turned the error into something positive, announcing plans to auction off the rug and donate all of the proceeds to Canine Estates, an animal rescue organization in Palm Harbor.

The online auction wrapped up Wednesday afternoon with the winner, a Florida resident who wishes to remain anonymous, bidding $9,650.

Sheriff's officials said the winner is a supporter of law enforcement and a dog lover who was "happy to do something for a good cause."

There were 83 people from around the country placed bids in the week-long auction, with almost 32,000 visits to the rug's website.
