Bethune-Cookman University

Authorities say three students were shot during an altercation at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, and law enforcement are still looking for two suspects.

The students were taken to hospitals after the Monday night shooting.

Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt says their injuries don't appear to be life threatening.

Two men were taken into police custody after the shooting, but were released after questioning. Police say the search for the shooters is continuing.

Flynt told the Daytona Beach News-Journal that at least two people pulled into the campus just before 7 p.m. They got out of the car and an altercation of some kind occured. One man pulled a gun and fired six to seven shots.

Flynt says the students appear to be innocent bystanders.

“This is an aberration. This is an isolated incident,” the university’s director of communications, Beverly James, told the News-Journal.

The university was open for classes as usual Tuesday morning. School President Dr. Edison O. Jackson held a town hall meeting with students as well.
