A fired Tampa police officer has been charged after investigators say he touched a woman inappropriately during a February traffic stop.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that 42-year-old Adam York turned himself in to the county jail Thursday morning on a sexual battery charge.
Authorities say York pulled the woman over before dawn on Feb. 1. The woman went to a hospital after the stop and filed a complaint saying that the officer had told her to pull down her pants and underwear and then touched her.
A Florida Department of Law Enforcement DNA test found that York's skin cells were inside the woman's underwear. He was fired March 4.
York's attorney, Rick Escobar, says the evidence will be favorable to his client's defense.
York is free on $15,000 bail.
