Investigators say a suspect in an aggravated battery case rammed his vehicle into a deputy's patrol car during a traffic stop near Tampa on Tuesday.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputy was knocked to the ground. According to a sheriff's news release, the deputy fired his weapon at least once at the suspect's vehicle. But the suspect drove away.
Officials say the deputy feared for his life. He was checked out by medics at the scene.
Arriving deputies began searching for the suspect. A short time later, they spotted his abandoned vehicle. The man has not been located.
