Pasco County Commissioners today rescinded the evacuation order for residents affected by flooding in the Elfers area. They also lifted a Flood Watch on the Anclote River. Officials say Elfers residents are now safe to return to their homes.

Commissioners also declared a Local State of Emergency to help recovery efforts from this week's heavy rains. They met during a special session Friday afternoon.

"The Local State of Emergency will allow County staff to more effectively conduct repairs to damaged roads and ensure that public utilities and fire rescue services can be provided to our residents," said Annette Doying, the county's Emergency Operations Director.

"Conditions have improved to the degree that residents can return to their homes in the evacuation area of Elfers," said Doying. "Please be mindful of your safety as you re-enter your homes. Please do an assessment of your property and contact the County if you have any outstanding needs related to this flood event. Over the weekend, those families which need assistance should call United Way's 2-1-1 line."

"We have received more rainfall than we did during Tropical Storm Debby here in Pasco and our focus now is on recovery and repair," she said. "This may be a long process because heavy amounts of rain are predicted in the coming days and weeks."
