Tampa is the best place to live in the entire Southeast United States, according to Money Magazine.
New jobs at companies such as Amazon and Bristol-Myers Squibb were among the reasons Tampa ranked as the top Southeastern city in the Best Places to Live 2015 report. It looked at the job market, housing costs, access to health care and other amenities such as the expanded flights at Tampa International Airport.
The other top cities included Denver, Omaha, Pittsburgh and Mesa, Arizona.
The ranking looked at 63 urban centers with populations of at least 300 thousand people. Tampa has 352,000 residents.
Housing - from Tampa Palms to Seminole Heights - also was highlighted. The magazine says while home prices are rising, the $91,000 median home price is still a third the cost of nearly a decade ago.
While the survey did mention the city's hosting of the Bollywood Oscars in 2014 and the recent run of the Tampa Bay Lightning for hockey's Stanley Cup, locals may chuckle at the magazine's nod to the city on Tampa Bay being a "sunbelt beach city with international aspirations."
