A street parade and Native American festival kicked off the 70th annual Chasco Fiesta this weekend in New Port Richey.
The event attracts thousands of people from the Tampa Bay area.
Joseph Ceresoli, a New Port Richey resident, said it's a good way to show off the town's new businesses and revamped downtown.
"I think it really brings everybody together,” Ceresoli said. “Even in Clearwater you've got people coming down here to see how this town has evolved to what is now."
Sim’s Park, located in the historic downtown, re-opened after a six-month renovation.
The Native American festival - one of several events this past weekend - wound its way through the new playground and splash pad.
Debbie Webb, a resident of nearby Holiday, said the city park was worth the wait.
"This is awesome,” Webb said. “They just redid the park not too long ago and it's really beautiful. It's an nice place for the youth to hang out."
Chasco Fiesta continues through Sunday, April 9 and ends with a Chalk Art Festival, Boat Parade and Special Olympics.
