Plenty Of Free Events Surrounding College Football National Championship

TampaBay2017.com

Even if you're not a college football fan there will be lots to do when the National Championship comes to Tampa on Jan. 9.

And the good news is, many of the events are free and open to the public.

The events start Friday, Jan. 6, and run through Monday.

On Saturday Jan. 7, downtown Tampa is the place to be.

The College Football Championship Media Day starts at 9 a.m. at Amalie Arena. Those who attend the free event get a free ticket to Playoff Fan Central at the Tampa Convention Center. From there, they can walk to Curtis Hixon Park for a free concert headlined by Flo Rida.

Tampa Sports Commission Director Rob Higgins says there are other ways to participate as well.

"You can get involved with the event and volunteer, help roll out the red carpet for all the visitors we have here, or you can attend a lot of great events," Higgins said.

Newspapers were my first love, but public radio stole my heart from the moment I tuned in during college.
