An outgoing state utility regulator is landing a new job to head Florida's parks system after the old director was abruptly demoted.
The Department of Environmental Protection announced Tuesday Lisa Edgar will become state parks director in mid-January. Edgar is finishing her third term as a member of the Florida Public Service Commission where she came under fire from critics who said she was too friendly with the state's big utility companies.
News accounts point out that former parks director Donald Forgione was recently reassigned to a new job where he will be in charge of one state park located in Gainesville.
Edgar used to be a deputy secretary for DEP, but the Tampa Bay Times reported her responsibilities included oversight of the agency's budget and not the state park system.
