Crowds flocked to the opening day of the 113th Florida State Fair on Thursday to sample the latest fried foods and explore the exhibits.

The fair's midway features more than 100 rides, as well as games for all ages. The Expo Hall hosts its usual crowd of vendors. Across the fairgrounds, poultry and livestock exhibits abound for the agriculturally minded.

Fairs are known for their endless selection of fried snacks, and the Florida State Fair is no exception. New foods this year include a donut grilled cheese, an enchilada funnel cake and a shrimp and grits sundae.

Onita Boyette said she has been coming to the fair for 15 years, and she always comes back for the food.

"I can remember it all the way back, when I lived in North Florida. We'd come here and visit our friends and our relatives here and we'd go,” she said.

The 2017 Florida State Fair will run from Feb. 9-20 at the Florida State Fairgrounds. For more information, visit http://www.floridastatefair.com.
