State Rep. Dan Raulerson, a Plant City Republican who has battled a painful back condition, plans to resign from the House on Aug. 15, the Tampa Bay Times reported Tuesday.
Raulerson, who represents Hillsborough County's House District 58, was first elected to the Legislature in 2012. He opened a campaign account to run again in 2018 but had raised only $2,000 as of June 30, state records show.
Raulerson, a certified public accountant, tweeted early Tuesday evening, “Thank you to my District 58 constituents for allowing me to serve you. It was a great honor.” Raulerson has a condition known as spinal stenosis and plans to have back surgery soon, the Times reported. “I need to focus on my health and my business,” he said.
The Times also reported that Raulerson expects to send a formal resignation letter this week to House Speaker Richard Corcoran, R-Land O' Lakes.
