Closings And Sandbags Due To Tropical Storm Emily

Tropical Storm Emily is expected to bring heavy rain to the Tampa Bay area.

A Flood Watch has been issued for all coastal and inland counties along Florida's Sun Coast, including the Tampa Bay Area, Lakeland, Sarasota, Fort Myers, Naples and the west shore of Lake Okeechobee.

Here’s a list of closures and other need-to-know information as Emily approaches:

CLOSINGS

  • Legoland's water park in Winter Haven will be closed today. 

  • All extra-curricular activities after 1 p.m. for Manatee County Schools have been cancelled today. No decision has been made for Tuesday.

SANDBAGS:

Hillsborough County is making sandbag materials available to the public at all three County Public Works Service Units.
Sandbags will be available at these units until 7 p.m. today:

  • West Service Unit - 9805 Sheldon Road in Tampa
  • South Service Unit -  8718 Old Big Bend Road in Gibsonton
  • East Service Unit - 4702 Sydney Road in Plant City

Pinellas Park residents can get up to 10 sandbags until 6 p.m. today at the Public Works Facilities Building, 6151 78th Ave N, Pinellas Park. Residents must show a water bill or valid driver's license indicating they are a resident of Pinellas Park in order to receive their sandbags. 

Tarpon Springs will be activating our three three sandbag locations today. They will be in place until further notice & maintained as necessary.

  • Splash Park (Live Oak Street between Alt 19 and US 19)
  • Sponge Docks (West End at Roosevelt Blvd)
  • Dorsett Park (E. Harrison Street)
