Dozens of law enforcement officers attended the funeral of a deputy killed in a head-on collision on the way home from work as Hurricane Irma began.
Hardee County Sheriff's Deputy Julie Ann Bridges collided with Joseph Ossman, a sergeant with the Hardee Correctional Institute who was headed to work on September 10. Authorities said the area was affected by rain and other hurricane-related conditions at the time of the crash, but its official cause remains under investigation.
During Saturday's funeral, her 8-year-old son accepted a flag from the sheriff that had been draped on her casket.
Sheriff Arnold Lanier described the 42-year-old as a hard worker, who loved her job and her son.
The Bradenton Herald reported a photo slide show featured many pictures of Bridges with her son.
