3 Candidates Qualify In House Race

Florida House of Representatives

Two Democrats and a Republican had qualified early Thursday afternoon to run in a special election to replace former state Rep. Alex Miller, a Sarasota Republican who recently resigned.

Qualifying in House District 72 race started at 8 a.m. Thursday and is scheduled to continue until noon Friday. The early qualifiers were Democrats Margaret Good and Ruta Jouniari and Republican James Buchanan, according to the state Division of Elections website.

Miller, who was elected to the seat last year, cited family and business reasons for her resignation. A special primary election is scheduled Dec. 5, while the special general election will be held Feb. 13.
