The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority held a virtual town hall meeting Monday night to show off designs for the Selmon Expressway extension project. There are two designs of what they call "the pier" to choose from. One is called "Vivid," the other "Estuary."
"The best way to differentiate them is just architectural differences," said Planning Director Bob Frey. "The ability to do the job of the pier doesn't change, it's just the aesthetics."
The public will determine which of the designs to be used, via online voting.
In the words of THEA CEO Joe Waggoner: "We want the public to pick the design that best connects with them."
You can vote online at www.SelmonExtension.com, or by calling 1-855-980-7525 and choosing 1 for the Vivid design or 2 for Estuary. Voting is open until Friday, Oct. 20, at 11:59 p.m.
The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority will reveal the winning design, chosen by the public on Monday, Oct. 23.
Construction will start late next summer, with a December 2020 completion expected.
