Florida legislators want to move the date of their 2020 annual session.
The Florida Senate on Thursday voted 34-3 to move the date of that year's annual session from March to January. The House has already approved the bill and it now goes to Gov. Rick Scott.
Florida's Constitution requires that legislators hold a session in March during odd-numbered years but legislators can move the date in even-numbered years.
Sen. Oscar Braynon, a Miami Gardens Democrat, voted against the bill, saying that Tallahassee was "too cold" in January. Sen. Bill Galvano, a Bradenton Republican, retorted that it was too hot later in the year.
Legislators moved up the dates of the 2018 and 2016 sessions to January.
