How often do you open your mail to receive those blue envelopes full of coupons that you then toss right into the trash? You may want to open them first, there’s a chance you could have thrown away free money.
In celebration of its 50th year in business, St. Petersburg-based Valpak will be mailing $100 checks to a few lucky people across the country every month this year. The only catch is that you have to open the “Blue Envelope” to see if you are a winner.
“The promotion is designed to reward our consumers by giving them a surprise for opening their ‘Blue Envelope’ of savings and looking through the offers,” Valpak's Manager of Strategic Communications David Williams said in an email.
Some check recipients are already talking about it on social media.

Despite the reward, Williams said that not a lot of people have taken advantage of this opportunity.
“While most checks get cashed, believe it or not, sometimes every check doesn’t get redeemed. That’s why we’re letting our consumers know to check their envelopes each month and know there are no strings attached…cash the check and enjoy your $100,” said Williams.
Winning checks will be made out to “Cash,” and mailed to people in 47 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces.
