The Tampa Bay Rays are moving on to the American League Division Series.
The Rays swept their Wild Card Series with the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 with an 8-2 victory Wednesday at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg.
It was the first postseason series win for the Rays since they went to their only World Series 12 years ago. They had previously won single game Wild Card playoffs in 2013 and 2019.
The Rays will next play their AL East Division rivals, the New York Yankees, who swept the Cleveland Indians 2-0.
Hunter Renfroe hit a grand slam for the Rays during a six-run second inning against Blue Jays ace Hyun Jin Ryu. The top-seeded Rays also got a strong pitching performance from Tyler Glasnow, who allowed two runs and six hits over six innings.
The best-of-five games division series with the Yankees will start Monday, and will be played entirely at a neutral site in San Diego.
