Here are the 2020 Manatee County election results.

U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan has won re-election for an eighth term representing parts of the greater Tampa Bay region.

The Republican defeated state legislator Margaret Good, a Democrat.

Meantime, school board member Dave Miner lost his District 3 seat to challenger Mary Foreman, a certified public accountant. Manatee residents first elected Miner to the District 3 seat in 2012.

Buchanan, one of the wealthiest members of Congress, campaigned on his business acumen and support for lower taxes. Good campaigned on strengthening environmental safeguards and preserving the health care law put into effect by former President Barack Obama.

Good could not overcome the fact that there are fewer Democratic voters in Sarasota and Manatee counties.

Good was fairly competitive in northern Sarasota and southern
Hillsborough counties. But in Republican-rich Manatee County, she lost by 20 percent.

Good gave up her Florida House District 72 seat to run for Congress. It's a seat she first won by beating Buchanan's son James in a February 2018 special election.
