Today marks one month before the start of the Republican National Convention. But many of the people coming to Tampa won't be sharing in the coronation of Mitt Romney - they'll be out in the streets, protesting what they say are the party's policies towards the less fortunate.
A handful of members of the Coalition to March on the RNC gathered in Perry Harvey Park, on the far end of downtown from where the convention will be held. That's where they plan to start their march, on the first day of the convention, toward a public viewing area within earshot of the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
In the park, they spoke under a banner saying, "Be Here August 27th to Demand Good Jobs, Healthcare, Affordable Education, Equality and Peace."
"We're not here just to protest for protest's sake." says group spokesman Jared Hamil. "We are because people have real demands, people have real problems, and a lot of these problems are caused by the parties of the one percent."
That, he says, not only includes Republicans, but Democrats, as well. Hamil says he expects around 5,000 people from around the country to participate in what he says will be a peaceful march.
