Senate candidate Connie Mack IV made a campaign swing through Pinellas and Sarasota counties today. But while he tried to focus on the November election, questions about Mack's past keep resurfacing.
One of Connie Mack's stops today was at Sayler's Suncoast Water supply store in Pinellas Park. It was part of his campaign to focus on how he would help small businesses that are beset by what he calls a crush of government regulation.
But Mack had to fend off reporter's questions about his past dealings working with the Hooter's restaurant chain and his arrest in a long-ago bar fight - which have been highlighted in television ads by his potential opponent, Senator Bill Nelson.
"Who cares?" he said. "People don't care about what somebody did in their past, how many times someone flushes their toilet, who bought what condo at what price. They care about the issues. Small business owners, they care about their taxes, regulation and Obamacare. Senator Nelson wants to run ads that doesn't talk about the issues."
First, Mack has to get through Tuesday's Republican primary, against former Congressman Dave Weldon.
