After a federal judge struck down in August a law that placed restrictions on third party organizations to register voters, a group of organizations came together to register 50,000 voters across the state since the decision.
More than half came from the I-4 corridor.
Mi Familia Vota is a national nonprofit organization that aims for civic participation in the Latino community. Spokeswoman Yulissa Arce says they achieved their goal registering thirty thousand new voters in Tampa, Orlando, and Kissimmee.
"Meeting this important goal means that the Latino community is realizing their full potential and is ready to make changes at the ballot box," she says.
Arce says the organization is trying to do more than register Latinos.
"Our efforts are not just about registering eligible Latinos and getting out the vote, but creating a new culture of civic engagement that will empower our community," she says.
Florida's deadline to register to vote for the general election is Tuesday.
